‘On The Way’ is a song about the walk of faith, and the
reality that being a Christian does not mean that hard times disappear. Jesus
faced many trials and hard times, yet His focus was always on doing His Father’s will and not on His circumstances,
because His treasure was in heaven. A life of faith is not characterized by
happiness and earthly success; it is about counting on the faithfulness of God
through good and bad, and focusing on the fulfillment of His purposes. A
worldly-minded person sees things differently than a Christian, whose mind is
in the heavenlies. The worldly standards of success, power, fame and wealth
judged Christ a failure, yet His life was an undeniable success, for despite it
all He conquered death. Because struggles are impossible to avoid, the truth of
knowing that Christ is ever-present in the midst of it all is essential for
getting through.
During a time of struggle it is easy to forget that my life
is in God’s hands, yet remembering that is the very hope that helps me get
through. During a hard time do not doubt God, and do not stop praying. Don’t
expect magnificent signs from heaven, and don’t expect an audible voice from
the sky—just allow your faith to rest entirely in the finished work of Christ
on the cross, and continue walking on the narrow path, believing that God is in control and that
He will bring you through. When you are on the way and face trials do not doubt
or complain, but instead, choose to draw closer to God. Choose to worship by
joining in with the hallelujahs of saints that have gone before and press into
your relationship with Jesus. He is faithful. He will see you through.
“You’re all I need,
all I want…through the pain Your peace remains, so we sing hallelujah!”
